Our Camp Venue Facilities and Location

Campers are accommodated in 1 of 30 large cabin style tents. These 2 room tents are grouped under large covers for complete weather protection and all have comfortable stretcher beds which fit up to 6 campers per tent- BYO bedding (eg. sleeping bags or Blankets, Sheets and pillows).

For School groups, teachers and supervisors are provided with their  own tent for their individual privacy which are set aside from the main group tents.

The Camp kitchen is a large undercover area providing a meeting and eating area, with seating and tables for up to 150 people. This doubles as the recreational area for evening camp activities. The camp has adequate undercover areas in the event of bad weather. As we are completely off grid limited lighting is distributed to tents and camp surrounds by a generator after dark and a 12v system in the main area which also provides power to charge mobile phones and cameras.

The camp has its own instant hot water system for use in the kitchen and wash up area. The toilet and shower block is adjacent to the camp and is a national park public facility. Showers are cool water which is pleasant enough in summer, However we utilise bush shower bags and a wood fired hot water boiler called "the donkey" for showers in the cooler months, but cool shower actually trigger waves of mood boosting neurochemicals which make you feel happy!!

The camp operates under a Commercial Tour Operators Permit issued by  the Queensland Government and covers all relevant fees,  consents and public liability insurances.

All vehicles operate under current Operator Accreditation issued by  Qld. Transport covering passenger transport regulations. Vehicles are equipped with seat belts which must be worn due to the offroading. Driver Authorization Licenses are held by all  drivers and all staff hold Blue Card Accreditation as issued by the  Dept. of Children's Services.

There is a full time QLD Ambulance station at Tangalooma about 12kms away. The camp is located about 500m north of the township of Bulwer which boasts a fully equipped First Aid Station at Bulwer, The Fire Station in Bulwer also doubles as an emergency shelter area.  A state of the art Helipad located adjacent to the campgrounds as well as a fire and emergency support facility located on the island, all accessed by dialling 000. There is emergency access to Helicopter Medivac Services and Coastguard Organisations for medical evacuations and there is an SES organisation based on the island. For any problems phone 000.

The camp and all activities comply with Workplace Health and Safety issues covering the Qld Department of Educations Risk Assessment criteria.
